Conference themes
In 1999 we held the highly successful 'Our Visual Landscape' conference at Monte Verità. We concentrated on the analysis, modelling, visualization and protection of the visual landscape. The results of this conference were published as a special issue in Landscape and Urban Planning (Lange & Bishop 2001).
The 'Our Shared Landscape' conference broadened the topic addressing landscape aesthetics and visual resources on an equal footing with ecological and socio-economic factors. In this context we especially addressed human influence in generating landscape through a wide range of land uses, among them agricultural and silvicultural land use, and its impact on landscape aesthetics and landscape ecology.
Goal of the conference
The conference explored the common ground and the conflicts between aesthetic, ecological and socio-economic / land use aspects of landscape planning and management and determined how to integrate these issues from both a theoretical and practical perspective.
